Dear diary, today, I .... made you?

I honestly don’t really know why I am starting this blog. But it kept coming to my mind for a while now, so here we are, and I feel like it’s the right thing to do. I think I will be sharing whatever I feel like processing - thoughts, experiences, random stuff.

So let’s get started.

I went for a run today. 10K in an okay-ish time (~55min) for somebody with running technique as shitty as mine. Trying to optimize for better economy, higher cadence, that sort of thing. I’ve been doing this for around 1.5 months maybe (?), though with varying frequency, after my girlfriend of 9 years and me decided to end the relationship. The grown-up part in me understands that it’s better for everyone involved, but it still sucks really hard. Maybe it’s my way of coping. Or to attach a positive outcome to a negative event. Anyway, my YouTube algorithm probably already knows whenever I go deep down the rabbit hole of training analytically, because boy-oh-boy do I get sucked into the (premature) optimization bubble. I did the same with golf the past couple of years - until I fucked up my knee super hard. So yeah, now my knee’s gotten a lot better, which is why I am getting in shape. I signed up for the Freiburg marathon next year in April. Let’s see how that goes.

What got me into running in particular was a book by a man who is known for believing that one grows and gets to know oneself best through grind and friction. (He did not write it like that, but you get the idea.)

Weird.

But that really spoke to me. Maybe I am also weird? So I decided I have to grind and stop giving in to my inner bitch. What’s funny is that I am, in fact, actually starting to get to know myself and feel better. I intend to try and find out who I can be. But first, to do that, I have to get used to lifting my lazy ass out of bed on days when I can’t run in the afternoon.

Also, I made banana bread today. And this time, I did not forget salt and sugar and chocolate powder and coconut flakes. Not sure you can even call this “banana bread”.
